Dr Lu Wang presented at the Asian Society of International Law 8th Biennial Conference held between 24 and 28 May 2021 via Zoom. The conference was organised by the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) with the theme of “What place for international law in the Asian future?” and had 40 Panels. Dr Wang presented on the International Economic law Interest Group Panel.

Dr Wang spoke on "Investment Rules under RCEP: Implications for China and Beyond". She critically analysed the four pillars of investment rules under the RCEP, including investment protection, investment liberalisation, investment promotion and investment facilitation, through the lens of Chinese investment treaty practice, and asked a number of important questions: How does China approach investment rules in RCEP? To what extent can the RCEP investment rules address China’s interests and concerns regarding foreign investment, especially post-pandemic? What issues are unregulated or underregulated in the RCEP investment chapter, and why? Dr Wang’s presentation highlighted the substantive liberalisation adopted in the RCEP, which will have far-reaching implications on investment rulemaking and government for China and beyond.
