Reimagining WTO's Role in Green Trade: Ally-shoring Critical Minerals for a Sustainable Future

CIBEL is very pleased to lead the organisation of a panel at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum 2023, in collaboration with the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University and Van Bael & Bellis.  

This year’s Public Forum, taking place in Geneva from 12 to 15 September, will be focusing on how trade can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. Around 130 sessions have been scheduled: see the draft programme here. The session jointly organised by CIBEL is currently scheduled at 15:15-16:30 on 14 September.  

This session, titled ‘Ally-shoring Critical Minerals for a Green Transition: Reimagining the WTO’s Role in Managing Confrontations and Disruptions’ will contribute to the Forum’s subtheme of inclusive policies of the advancement of green trade. The panellists are leading commentators from four major jurisdictions – the US, the EU, China and Mexico – and will discuss the latest developments of their strategies for the protection of supply chains of critical minerals, the interaction of these strategies with trade policies, and the role of the WTO in managing confrontations and disruptions generated by these strategies. They include:
