China in the Global Trading System: State Capitalism, Developing Country Status and Sustainable Development

 

China is at the centre of academic and policy debates about the future of the multilateral trading system established under the auspices of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This panel discussed some of the most systemic and controversial issues relating to China, the world trading system and beyond. 

The Young Scholars Workshop was chaired by Associate Professor Weihuan Zhou and joined by Associate Prof Wei Yin (SWUPL), Assistant Prof (Mandy) Meng Fang (CityU of HK) and Assistant Prof Luyao Che (CUPL) to discuss some longstanding or emerging challenges faced by the WTO: developing country status and special and differential treatment, recent development of regulation of state-owned enterprises under the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, and trade and sustainable development and China’s practices.
