2023 CIBEL-SIDRA Conference: Dispute Resolution in the Belt Road Initiative—A New Model of Economic Governance?

China is promoting a new model of transnational economic governance through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a high-level policy framework shaping China’s outward economic activities. China’s modes of governance under the BRI reflect some extent of complexity and internal inconsistency.  In dispute resolution, China also aims to play a more important role.

Assistant Professor Mark Mclaughlin from the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy, Professor Mark Feldman of Peking University, Associate Professor Matthew Erie of University of Oxford, Professor Won Kidane from Seattle University, and UNSW CIBEL Member Associate Professor Kun Fan discussed China's new model of transnational economic governance, their role in dispute resolution, and more.
