Official Launch of Herbert Smith Freehills China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Centre

UNSW Law’s Herbert Smith Freehills China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Centre had its official launch on 28 February 2019 at 6 pm.

The Herbert Smith Freehills CIBEL Centre is the world’s largest centre outside of China for teaching and researching CIBEL matters. This long-term strategic initiative aims to strengthen research and partnerships in international business and economic law relevant to China in the 21st century, and particularly to the Australia-China trading corridor.

Established in the UNSW Law, which is the 16th best law school globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018, the CIBEL Centre entered a partnership with one of the world’s leading law firms, Herbert Smith Freehills, in November 2018. The partnership injected new energy to the Centre and brought more possibilities for the Centre to boost its engagement within the field.

The launch event on 28 February marked the official establishment of the Herbert Smith Freehills CIBEL Centre. We were joined on the night by key speakers from both Herbert Smith Freehills and CIBEL, including Co-Director Associate Professor Heng Wang.

The University gratefully acknowledges the support of Herbert Smith Freehills in establishing this pioneering initiative and looks forward to recognising their contribution at this special event.

We are grateful you joined us to mark the beginning of this initiative, which will advance the Australia-China international economic law relationship.
