On Monday, 22 March 2021, CIBELCentre Co-Director Professor Heng Wang joined a panel for the 4th Webinar of the Investment Arbitration (IA) Talk Series, entitled The RCEP Agreement and its Impact on Trade and Investment Treaty Arbitration”.

The webinar hosted by the King's College London Forum on International Dispute Resolution (IDR) and Triumvir Law, was chaired by Professor Holger Hestermeyer, Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College, London. Other panellists included Professor Arpita Mukherjee, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), RV Anuradha, Partner of Clarus Law Associates, Professor Leila Choukroune, University of Portsmouth and Professor James J. Nedumpara, Executive Director of Centre for International Trade and Economics Laws, Jindal Global Law School, all leading experts from academia and practice.

Professor Wang spoke about RCEP’s general impact on China. He also discussed trade barriers, and the possible effect of the RCEP on tariffs and non-tariff barriers. The presentation was based on his analysis of the breadth (regulatory outreach), depth (regulatory density) and strength (rule use intensity) of the RCEP.

A recent article by Professor Wang on the depth, breadth and intensity of trade agreements is available here.
