Professor Ross Buckley Appointed Member of Payments System Board (RBA)

CIBEL member and ARC Laureate Fellow Scientia Professor Ross Buckley has been appointed to the Payments System Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia for a five-year term. The Payments System Board directs payments system policy for Reserve Bank of Australia. It is responsible for controlling risk, promoting the efficiency of the payments system and promoting competition in the market for payments services consistent with the overall stability of the financial system. 

Professor Buckley has an extensive research and publication history. In 2020, he was awarded an Australian Laureate Fellowship by the Australian Research Council for a project identifying reforms to laws and regulatory approaches to reap the benefits and limit the major risks of data and its algorithmic analysis. He has advised the Asian Development Bank, government departments in more than twelve countries and three US government agencies. His expertise in FinTech, RegTech, central bank digital currencies and Consumer Data Rights will make a valuable contribution in his new role.
